Canada’s first university-affiliated, licensed, pharmacist-led patient care clinic opened its doors. Located in the new architecturally award-winning Pharmaceutical Sciences Building, the clinic has five consultation rooms, each fully equipped and linked to the Excelleis health-care info system. UBC Pharmaceutical Sciences Dean Michael Coughtrie calls the clinic a “bold step forward” in the training of student pharmacists.

The Pharmaceutical Sciences Building is what the Canada Council of the Arts calls “a strong building with a strong concept, beautifully executed” and in 2014 won the Governor General’s Medal in Architecture.

Designed by Saucier + Perrotte Architectes and Hughes Condon Marler Architects, and officially known as the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Centre for Drug Research and Development, the $133-million 22,850-square-meter (246,000 square feet) stacked-cube marvel opened in 2012 and is one of just three projects in BC so recognized in the GG’s national competition.
