2014–2015 Highlights

Each year, UBC communicates its progress through a mix of storytelling and metrics. This year’s report features nine stories that exemplify the achievements of our students, faculty, staff and alumni as they support the nine commitments of the university’s strategic plan, Place and Promise. The report also provides us with an opportunity to recognise and celebrate our success over the last year. Achievements during 2014–2015 include:

  • UBC’s research investment increased by $13 million compared to the previous year
  • UBC established a $4.5 million strategic priorities fund to facilitate initiatives that support our research, teaching and learning mission
  • $6 million annual investment in student assistance and mental health services for domestic and international students announced
  • 93% undergraduate satisfaction with overall academic experience*
  • 17% increase in the number of international students on both campuses
  • UBC Okanagan has nearly doubled the number of industry partnerships from 2012
  • 803 industry-sponsored research contracts in 2014–15
  • 140 new invention disclosures in 2014–15
  • Achieved goal of graduating 50 more Aboriginal MDs by 2020 (five years ahead of schedule)
  • A balanced operating budget for 2014–15
  • $208.5 million raised in 2014–15
  • UBC’s long-term credit rating is AA+ with Standard & Poor’s and Aa1 with Moody’s Investors Service
