Logan Graham, honours student at UBC’s Vancouver School of Economics and in his final year of his B.A, in Economics, won a Rhodes Scholarship. The postgraduate awards support “exceptional students from around the world” and allows them to study at the University of Oxford, England. Only 11 students in Canada are awarded the scholarship and only one from B.C.

To win a Rhodes, says Graham, “is an immense privilege to represent BC, UBC, and Canada in Oxford. The Rhodes community is truly unparalleled and I’m honoured to have the chance to contribute to it.”

Established in the will of Victorian-era magnate Cecil Rhodes, the Rhodes is the oldest and perhaps the most prestigious international scholarship program in the world, which aims to nurture public-spirited leaders for the world’s future.

To win a Rhodes, a student must combine excellent marks with exceptional engagement.

When Graham was seven, he and his family started the Children’s Arthritis Foundation to help other children living with juvenile arthritis. While at UBC, he was involved in numerous academic and social activities. Graham founded the UBC Social Enterprise Club and launched Yunus & Youth (a global fellowship that pairs young social entrepreneurs with expert mentors and a support network), participated in the international learning program and spent a term at the National University of Singapore.

Logan Graham joins an elite list of UBC economics graduates whom have been awarded a Rhodes Scholarship. Prior winners are Matthew Chan (Major Economics ’06) and Dominic Barton (Honours Economics ’84).
